Sibashish Das। “Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota. Use perfect banana padta hai.” These lines are from the blockbuster Rang De Basanti (2006) literally meaning “Paint me with the colours of spring”. It was both innovative and conservative: a forward- and backward-looking meditation on two of the preoccupations of Hindi cinema: nationalism and filmmaking.

Stepwells like the one shown here, ensured the availability of water during periods of drought. They had social, cultural and religious significance. One of the most famous scenes of the movie, in which Amir Khan and Sharman Joshi have to jump from the cliff while drinking beer, was shot here. The director of the movie Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra chose this location to show the wild side of the characters in the movie.A famous song ‘Khalbali’ was also shot here.

Nahargarh Fort stands on the edge of the Aravalli Hills, overlooking the pink city of Jaipur in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The view of the city from the fort is breath-taking. Along with Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh once formed a strong defence ring for the city.Though the fort was always a sought after destination for tourists, after the shooting of blockbuster movie Rang De Basanti, this fort got instant fame amongst the people of the country. Aravali range is the home of several forests, wildlife, and protected areas, UNESCO heritage listed forts, hundreds of rivers and ancient history to sustain a large tourism industry.
