Shivraj singh chauhan to take oath as MP CM today at 9 pm
Four days after former CM Kamal Nath tendered his resignation to Governor Lalji Tandon following the resignation of 22 Congress MLAs, the three time chief minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan is likely to be sworn in as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh at 9 pm today. Although the names of former state minister Narottam Mishra, who played a key role in dislodging the Nath government, and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar are also doing the rounds, Shivraj Singh Chouhan seems to be the frontrunner.
The Congress Government in the state fell when on Friday, March 20 2019, the former CM resigned barely two hours before the floor test in the state assembly that he was supposed to face, as per the Supreme Court verdict. The Congress lost its majority after 22 MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia, took a flight to Bengaluru and resigned. The Grand Old Party suffered a major setback when Scindia, who also happened to be a close confidant of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi joined BJP on March 11, 2019.
Coronavirus crisis: Pakistan ill prepared and ill intentioned.
Chaouhan was constantly in the frame during the entire political fiasco in the state, so much so that he led the BJP petition in Supreme Court against Kamal Nath government’s refusal to take a floor test. He also kept giving out the impression while interacting with the media, that as when an opportunity arrives he would form the government in Madhya Pradesh. The Election Commission will announce the bypoll dates in the state, once the crisis that is fetched in by the Coronavirus pandemic subsides.
